If you had asked me what turning 40 meant to me a few weeks ago, I would have used words like horrific, the pit of despair, black hole, bad dream...you get the picture.
Turning 40 wasn't something I looked forward to at all. It was a place I didn't want to be. For some reason turning 40 meant looking back at all I hadn't done.
Turning 40 also meant the end of baby possibilities. In the world of fertility, turning 40 drops your chances of having children a bit more drastically. So for the last few years I've been telling myself that I just couldn't reach 40 without having a baby. And that didn't happen.
So there I was. Looking ahead at something I wanted to run from, but couldn't. And then I got the phone call that would change my gloomy outlook.
In a word:
Disneyland

My mom called to tell me that she and my sisters were taking me to Disneyland as a surprise for my 40th birthday. I was in total shock. No one has ever done something that amazing for me. Ever. She had even gotten approval from my boss. They had this surprise planned for weeks. I couldn't believe it. I was so excited I couldn't sleep that night. I still can't believe it's real. And we leave in two days. AAAAHHHH!!!
Now when I think of turning 40, I think of this amazing surprise and the most generous gift I've ever been given. And that is certainly something to celebrate! :)
Here we go!
