Even stranger

(continuing from the end of the last post)

Trust your gut when you know something is off.

I know it may seem dramatic of me to go into detail about this, but the more I find out, the creepier it gets.

That Seattle school I interviewed with yesterday is a Waldorf School. They left me a message saying they want to meet me in Seattle. I tried to block out my weird feelings from yesterday and just consider the possibility...this is a job that could be our ticket to Seattle...but I still couldn't kick the weird feeling. So I did a little more research.

I found the website of a group called "People for Legal and Non-Sectarian Schools". They are former Waldorf parents, teachers, students, administrators and trustees who's goal is to educate the public about the reality behind "Waldorf's facade". That it is really an occultist sect. They also filed a lawsuit against Waldorf Schools for their lack of church and state separation.

My wierd feelings started to make sense.

A mom who previously had her children at a Waldorf school said the school seemed to be rooted in a medieval dogma she didn't understand. Here are some of her questions (she never got answers to) that show the craziness of the school's culture:
  • Why don't teachers allow students in preschool through early elementary to use black crayons in their drawings?
  • Why is mythology taught as history?
  • Where is the American flag, and why don't Waldorf schools teach civics lessons?
  • Why do students copy everything from the blackboard?
  • Why do Waldorf teachers talk in high voices and sing-song directions to their classes?
  • Why must the kindergarten room walls be painted "peach blossom"?
  • Why is learning to read before the age of 8 or 9 considered unhealthy?
  • Why are teachers always lighting candles?"
Another mom talked about the mystical ceremonies they have for the childrens birthdays with candles and a ceremony of crossing over the spirit child to their parents or something.

I thought back to my phone interview and how weird the lady answered one of my questions. I asked if their school actually taught religious beliefs or just taught by them. She said she didn't really know how to answer my question, but could say that "all lessons are taught with reverence" and that the children are always singing.

Hmmmmm.

Anyway, no surprise - I called and left a message declining the interview. I've never had such a strange experience or had such weird feelings about a place. Not to be too weird myself, but I feel like I was prompted to stay away from it. Their whole religious view is too anti- all the things I believe in my heart to be true.

Okay, I'm done. Thanks for sticking by to read this, if you're still here.
