New ward

We finally were able to attend our new ward today. I was nervous because I hate being new and I didn't know what to expect. However, it went really well and everyone was really nice. Looks like things will go well here for us.

Highlights:
  • Welcome, Welcome Sabbath Morning was the opening hymn. Rod said they were singing it just for us.
  • We were greeted warmly by a member of the Bishopric who said "we prayed you here." By the end of the day he had brought us a stake directory and paper to have our records transferred.
  • The RS President thought I was in my 20's. What? I may look younger than 39, but in my 20's? She said there were a lot of young couples that we would like...I probably gave her a weird look. Do you mean young at heart?
  • There are lots of nice women in RS.
  • I set our oven to bake potatoes while we were gone and came home to a delicious potato bar lunch.
Lowlights:
  • Following directions that took us to the back of the church with the only entry walking down a path, through a fence and across the parking lot. And it was lightly raining. I needed to look cute today!
  • The inevitable question from many people...do you have kids??...and then the slightly uncomfortable pause following, "no, we don't." ...
  • ...Unless you're the RS Pres I guess. After learning I wasn't in my 20's, and didn't have children...I could see the wheels turning in her head (all too familiar). So I gave her the short story about invitro...and at that point should have said, "okay bye". Instead she tried to understand where I was coming from by talking about teen pregnancy and how hard it must be to see teens have babies when I can't and how unfair that all is. I know she meant well. So many mean well...but less conversation is better than more sometimes.
Overall today really did go well and everyone was really nice. I'm looking forward to getting to know the members better and see what callings they have in store for us! If I had my way I would teach Primary again...but we'll see. I don't want to jinx it!

i'm so glad you like your new ward!!! That's always the worst part about moving. If you want i'll be more than happy to give you my primary calling....ctr-8. hahahaha

yay! i'm excited about your new ward. maybe a calling in RS would be good since you said there were a lot of nice women there. that way your able to meet more of them. i love being in primary, but i miss the connection with the women in RS.
and p.s. you really do look young. if i met you for the first time, i would think 30. :)

So glad your new ward went well. I too hate going to new wards. It's always so hard being the newbie and trying to get to know new people. Also glad there's lots of other "young couples" for you guys to hang out with ;)

wow, they prayed you there...what a great ward, they have faith.....my ward makes me want to pray our way out....a few more years to make up the cost of the points we paid on our loan, and we'll be looking for something else.....maybe some bishopric or stake leadership will pray us to their ward/stake.
