Right now I have something taped to my body that literally counts every beat of my heart.
Not to scare anyone, but I've had what have felt like heart palpitations for the last year, off and on. Last year an EKG showed everything was fine and I was put on a potassium supplement, in case my electrolytes were throwing off my heart rhythm (or what felt like it was being thrown off anyway).
At the end of January when Rod and I decided to start walking every morning, I started having some strange symptoms that worried me, so we stopped. It was at that point (in combination with my recent high cholesterol) that I decided I needed to do something about it.
The doctor's guess, is that these random abnormalities are probably nothing that will hurt me, but just to be sure, she's having me do a 24 hour EKG. I have to write down any symptoms I have and make sure the little pads don't peel off, which of course is making me crazy - did I just feel something?? Should I write it down? Is the tape peeling off?...like every five seconds.
This contraption is a bit uncomfortable. The tape rips at your skin where the little pads have been taped down and there are wires coming out all over from a little box that clips to your waist. I'm wearing baggy clothes and a scarf, hoping nothing will show or pop out while I'm at school. And I'm hoping sleeping-while-wired won't be difficult tonight.
I get the monitor taken off tomorrow morning, meet with a cholesterol specialist Thur. and do a treadmill test next Thur. It's just fun, fun, fun I tell you!
On a positive note, I did sell a bunch of washcloths in my shop - 8 sets from one buyer! I'd better get sewing!

Hopefully, it's just a perio-menopause thing...my heart races every so often, even when I am resting. Let us know what you find out ~
