The numbers are going down

My blood test last week revealed that the Methotrexate is working. My HCG levels are going down like they are supposed to, which means the pregnancy is terminating like it should. Also, they found no big dips in my liver, kidney and platelet functions (which were at risk from the medication). Whew! I'm relieved.

The nurse said it is very unlikely that I'll have to have another Metho injection. I go back for another blood test this Wed., 1/14 to make sure the levels continue to go down. As long as my HCG reaches zero it will show there are no remaining traces of the pregnancy. I'll have blood tests once a week for the rest of the month; hopefully no longer than that.

Aside from our sad outcome, we're really glad the Methotrexate is working as it should to avoid any further complications. I'm really tired (a side-effect) but other than that I feel pretty good. We're already making tentative plans about doing IVF for the 2nd time. It's still kind of hard to think of doing it again, but our priority is having a family, so we'll do whatever it takes.

P.S. - Debbie, I'm so sorry to hear about your ectopic pregnancy and that you ended up in the hospital. I'm glad you made it through alright. My thoughts are with you and your husband.
