Potato, patato

Weird experience today getting my blood drawn. But that's not unusual for me.

I'm still waiting for the results of the HCG level and blood panel for my tolerance of Methotrexate, which won't be back until tomorrow because the nurse forgot to write STAT on the order. Anyway...

I went to a blood drawing center not far from home instead of driving up to the repro care center in Sandy.

First the tech tried to draw blood where pretty much no veins exist. Thanks.

2nd attempt, she drew out of my wrist. Ouch. AND she kept shoving the needle in farther until I winced and she said, "Sorry, you have really tough skin."

THEN she proceeded to tell me that my skin is so tough it's like trying to push a needle into a potato. Thanks. I always liked potatoes and now evidently I'm one of them.

a sense of humor is always good. I love tech's that can't draw blood to save their lives.....they're the best!

Wow...I guess you ARE tough...inside and out! (tough in the sense of being 'strong'!) Looks like the techies need a road map to find your veins...do you have an internal GPS ?

Wow. Nothing like a good kick in the pants when things are already stupid.
It's really great that she's retarded, but somehow was able to blame that on you? I think you have nice skin. We had baked potatoes last night, and I have to say, no resemblance there.
I'm sure you wanted to punch her in the face.... or shove a needle in her eye ;)
<3 ya!

Hi Shannon & Rod,

It's Debbie here. Haven't been online in awhile. I'm sorry to hear all has not gone as hoped for for you guys. I am confident that in the end you will prevail and all will be happy with a healthy baby.

Our preg did not go well either. Turned out it was ectopic, after alot of blood work and waiting, and still no pain, appears I'm very stoic, I had emergency surgery as I was 5-6 weeks, the time ectopics get ugly, but it had already erupted in my right tube, and I was still feeling no pain "just not myself". Proves the point that we should listen to our bodies and not always our doctors. Not the usual pain associated w/ an ectopic. Thank goodness all ended well, I'm fine and healing from surgery. Don't know where we're headed from here, but we'll see.

I too have felt like a Potatoe (I think it looks better w/ the e on the end of the word). The nurses in my doc's office are great, at the hospital, I swear they are all newbies putting in IV's and taking blood. Someday they'll be the patient. What comes around.....

So hang in there, I know you'll get there. Faith is half the battle.

Oh ya sister, I have done the blood drawn from my wrist thing...after they tried both arms with no luck. It HURT more than in the hand, my usual place, and caused a horribly painful bruise on my wrist. I am feeling your pain...it appears we have the same vein issues.
