Working my way backwards

I haven't posted in forever! I'm in summer vacation mode until my summer work begins in a couple weeks.

Over the past several weeks, main events have included flying to San Diego to visit Jeremy, Emily and Pearce for Pearce's blessing, touring Washington's Olympic Peninsula (including Forks, WA - ha!), celebrating our 5th anniversary, hanging out at the ranch for a few days and celebrating Rod's birthday. Woohoo!

So lets start with the most recent, our weekend in Cle Elum and Rod's birthday (July 4th). We had a lot of fun up at the ranch. Unfortunately, it was cut short because we couldn't find subs for our Primary classes, so we had to leave Saturday night, but it was fun while it lasted.

Saturday, July 3rd started off with the annual Cle Elum 4th of July Parade. It was on the cold and windy side, but a lot of fun.

(yes, my hair is crazy from the wind, it's not a new hairstyle)
(I told my mom and dad to look like they were having fun)

Cle Elum Parade, in small town style

One of our favorite parts of the parade came at the end with the "dancing horses". Here's a little video. Sorry, my video taking skills are a little bumpy.

After the parade we went to the street fair where they had booths and food. My mom suggested we get a homemade corn dog. At first I thought they wouldn't be any different than any other corn dog, or that it would have a beer battered fish-and-chips taste, but I was so wrong. We didn't get the german sausage, just the regular, but they were hand-dipped in homemade coating. It was seriously the best corn dog I've ever eaten. I hope they come back next year because I'll be their first customer.

The rest of the afternoon we went garage sale-ing, which I loved. It's fun to see what treasures we could find. I found a pair of 50 cent pearl clip-on earrings, since my pierced ears get infected with posts, and three DVD's for $.66 cents each (Italian Job, No Reservations, and Just Like Heaven). The Just Like Heaven case had been eaten by a dog, but for .66 I'll take it (provided there's no dog slobber).

That evening we celebrated Rod's birthday together, a day early. We had pulled pork sandwiches, fresh crispy corn on the cob (yum), juicy, sweet pineapple, and potato salad for dinner and strawberry cheesecake for his dessert. Mmmm, mmm good.

Happy Birthday to my Yankee Doodle Sweetheart!

Yesterday we spent the day out and about. Rod was such a good sport. He definitely earned the best husband award. We did a little shopping, well okay, a lot of shopping. We had to exchange some clothes I had bought Rod. I know how much he hates trying on clothes, but he was a good sport and it didn't take too long to get everything we needed for him.

Then we fed my sewing/re-fashioning obsession. I am crazy about getting cheap clothes from Old Navy and "re-fashioning" them. Is that even a word?

Anywho, after looking through the department store for major clearance deals, we hit two Old Navy's and JoAnn fabrics. We also had a couple other stops along the way. Rod's feet were hurting by the end of the day and he was looking a little dazed by the time we were done. It was really nice spending the day together and he seriously is the best husband I could ever ask for. He has more patience than anyone I know.

Piles of clearance finds... (you won't even recognize them when I'm done with them!)

And here are a couple piles of clothes that haven't fit me for years...and I've been carrying them around thinking they would someday, but let's be honest, they're not going to. So you'll be seeing them in some of my re-fashoning experiments.

Stay tuned for more as I catch up with our latest adventures...

you'll have to ask Rod about Grandpa Sorensen and his horses at the Spanish fork parade. From the stories I've heard it Grandpa Sorensen's horses would give those dancing horses a run for their money.

I think Walt and Rod must have had the same traumatic experience as children. Walt HATES clothes shopping as well.
