Anywho...
Day 3 began peacefully as we overlooked the Seiku bay.
It was now June 25th, our 5th anniversary. Woohoo!
After a big breakfast at the local diner (the only diner), we headed up to Cape Flattery (near Neah Bay), the most northwestern point in the contiguous United States.
And at last, we arrived at the most northwestern point in the lower U.S.
Sorry, my pictures don't do it justice. It was really pretty.
Here's a view of Tatoosh Island (as seen from our view point at the cape)
We got a good picture of the two of us actually together...but we think we'll save it for our Christmas card. :)
From there, we ventured back toward Sequim where we would be staying that night, but we made a few stops along the way.
Hobuck Beach
Clallam Bay - Slip Point tide pools
I really wanted us to see some tide pools before we left and had read that Slip Point was a great place to see tide pool sea life. So we ventured out for what turned out to be a very long walk out to the point...but well worth it. Luckily by the time we got out there, the tide had gone out so we could actually see what we were there to see.
We saw sea urchins
The walk back to the car was a little more eventful than we expected.
Instead of taking the long walk back down the beach, we decided to cut through the lighthouse and on through a neighborhood. Unfortunately, we crossed paths with a very ferocious little dog. He growled, lurched and chased us. I was afraid at any moment he would be attached to my calf with his teeth. Rod tried to get him to back off by kicking at him, but he wouldn't budge. Luckily he eventually backed off, but it was pretty scary there for a while.
Port Angeles was our next stop, to eat dinner. We wanted something nice since it was our anniversary. Rod was very sweet and offered to let us eat at Bella Italia, but after finding out it would be a 2 hour wait (for an over priced meal) we decided to find something else.
We ended up finding Gordy's Pizza and Pasta, more of a family restaurant, where I enjoyed some delicious lasagna and Rod had a plate of alfredo fettucini with smoked salmon. It was just what we had hoped to find.
As we arrived in Sequim, we had to make one more stop before reaching our hotel. I wanted to see the New Dungeness Lighthouse. Unfortunately after driving around for quite a while, this was as close as we could get for a picture, since it's located out on private land.
One more day to report.
Stay tuned for day 4: Port Townsend, Port Ludlow and the ferry ride back!
