Looking GREAT!

First of all, I hope you all had a very Happy Thanksgiving! We had a lot of fun getting together with the Sorensen's up at Walt and Maren's house.

This morning it was back to business as usual. I had a blood test and ultrasound at 8:30am and everything looks GREAT! In fact, the nurse said we may do the egg retrieval earlier than next Thursday because my follicles are growing quickly. Woohoo!! I had to scream in the car over that bit of news. It's coming so quickly! It's both exciting and scary at the same time!

Anyway, the nurse was surprised that for a 38-year-old, I was on the lowest dose of medication and my body was responding so quickly and so well. Yeah for me!

I have to go back in tomorrow morning for another blood draw and ultrasound at 10:45am. Who doesn't love a good blood draw and ultrasound in the morning?!

Here's what they checked for:
Checked uterine lining - looked perfect. She said it was ready for implanting.
Blood work - hormone levels are right where they should be
Ovaries - checked for developing follicles. I have 7 maturing on the right and I think 3 on the left.

Of course, my story wouldn't be complete without a little blood-drawing drama. Unfortunately, I had a run in with another 5-year-old intern. The best word I can think of to describe them is "quivering". I can spot them a mile away.

My definition of a quivering intern:
  • just starting out, look like they are 5;
  • unsure of themselves just enough to cause doubt in their patients;
  • giggles nervously while showing a total lack of confidence;
  • shakes like a timid little puppy while opening the syringe and tying that nasty giant rubber band thing around your arm;
  • takes longer than five seconds to find a good vein and instead, pushes around for a while, turns your arm over, looks at your hand, says, "Hmmmm" a lot and looks confused and/or terrified.

As I told her my blood was hard to draw and that the previous nurse had to take it out of my hand, the quivering began a little more intensely and I knew I was in trouble. She stabbed me twice in the hand (hurt like CRAZY) and got absolutely no blood. Thanks for that. Then she finally went and got a real nurse who drew it out of my forearm successfully. This nurse said she avoids the hand until she has no other option because there are so many nerves. Uh, Yah. Tomorrow - requesting a real nurse.

Keep your fingers crossed that tomorrow's tests are great. It seems I could be taking the "trigger shot" (the whammy that gets the eggs ready for retrieval) Sunday or Monday!
